Pumpkin Scones

© Recipe and photo from allsecretrestaurantrecipes.com

Hi, Jen of BoutiqueVintage72 here! Something very special happens each year in September.  And I am not talking about the kids going back to school, although that comes in at a close second.  The special and joyous occasion of which I speak is the return of the Starbucks Pumpkin Scone.

I have loved these rich, delicately spiced and pumpkin kissed, double frosted morsels of goodness for many years and often wished I could make them at home. Imagine my glee when I discovered a recipe that is not only as good as the original, it might even be better!  Perfect for a crisp Fall morning or any time you crave a delicious tasty treat with your coffee or tea, these scones are so good, you will be glad the kids are back in school so you can enjoy them in peace.

● 2 cups all-purpose flour
● 7 Tbsp. sugar
● 1 Tbsp. baking powder
● ½ tsp. salt
● ½ tsp. cinnamon
● ½ tsp. nutmeg
● ¼ tsp. cloves
● ¼ tsp. ginger
● 6 Tbsp. cold butter
● ½ cup canned pumpkin
● 3 Tbsp. half-and-half
● 1 large egg

Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and spices in a large bowl.
3. Use a fork, pastry knife or food processor to cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles a course meal.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the pumpkin, half-and-half and egg.
5. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
6. Form the dough into a ball and turn out onto a lightly floured surface.
7. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle, then slice like a pie to create triangles.
8. Transfer scones to baking sheet and bake for approximately 14-16 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
9. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Powdered Sugar Glaze
● 1 cup + 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
● 2 Tbsp. whole milk

Spiced Glaze
● 1 cup + 3 Tbsp. powdered sugar
● 2 Tbsp. whole milk
● ¼ tsp. cinnamon
● 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
● 1 pinch ginger
● 1 pinch cloves

Directions
1. Start by making the powdered sugar glaze.
2. Mix the powdered sugar and the 2 Tbsp. milk together until smooth.
3. When the scones are completely cool, use a brush to paint the plain glaze over the top of each scone.
4. Next, make the spiced icing by combining all ingredients together.
5. Drizzle the spiced icing over the powdered sugar icing and allow both icings to dry.
